Andor - Season 1

MW-20 Bryar Pistol

Anchor: MW-20 (Andor)

As both a Star Wars fan, and an Action Prop Maker, this job was a privilege and the realisation of a dream.

Working from a 3D concept model, I redrew the case and designed the inner workings; then built using a combination of 3D Printing, metal plating, traditional machining and custom PCB design. As the lead character's primary weapon, no expense was spared in producing this fully working, light up, revolving, recoiling hero prop. Pushing my experience to the limit in terms of physical space, reliability and functionality, this was probably my favorite project to date, reinforced by seeing the fan reaction when the series was released.

Bankers Box

Anchor: Bankers Box (Andor)

A complicated box built to an exceptionally high finish. The box used high quality linear bearings to produce a smooth opening motion and a low profile practical release mechanism was designed to ensure locks moved simultaneously. Built using Waterjet cut Aluminium, CNC'd foamex, with moulded and hand machined parts.

Heist Chronometer

Anchor: Chronometers (Andor)

Inspired by a Sinclair FM Radio Watch, these small time keeping devices pushed the boundaries of miniature prop making abilities. Background versions contained batteries, backlights and interchangeable lenses, whilst hero versions used outsourced electronics to allow the lighting desk to control LEDs and an LCD screen. Both versions were printed in stainless steel with photoetched details and cast rubber bellows, all finished to a high standard.

Stun Batons

Anchor: Stun Batons (Andor)

Modifying existing stunt props; I provided simple flasher circuits to illuminate the ends of these Imperial Stun Batons.  I had the probe tip printed in stainless steel, allowing me to use the metal case as one wire and a second wire to pass up a channel inside of the tip. This ensured the smallest possible LEDs were used and maintained the strength in the delicate areas.

Gurney Droid

Anchor: Gurney Droid (Andor)

A fast paced but fun little job, using simple mechanics and radio control electronics to produce an alternative take on a Star Wars classic. Using a hobby RC transmitter, I was able to puppeteer the head movement and the eye light from across the set.

Other

Anchor: Other (Andor)

The Medipen and the Floor Trigger Pen were both carefully machined by hand, with internal electronics to illuminate in camera as practical hand props.

Several of us worked on the instruments, using real flutes combined with old school kit bashing techniques to maintain their tune whilst looking like they belong in the Star Wars Universe.
