About me

This is me, David, hello!

I started my career in Special Effects in 2012 and found my place working in Prop Making and Animatronics for some of the biggest feature films shot in the UK. Fulfilling a niche between artist and engineer, the fast paced lifestyle and variety of work has taught me a broad skillset and a dedicated work ethic.

In 2016 I decided it was time for a change, so I took time to travel and figure out my future. This led me up mountains, around volcanos, over reefs and into the jungles of Borneo; where a face to face encounter with an Orangutan made me realise I value an interesting life over an easy one. I returned in 2018 with a new direction in life: to work in Natural History Filmmaking.

Driven by these experiences I then set about learning everything I could to do with wildlife, cameras, drones, editing and filmmaking. This came to fruition in 2021 when I started working professionally for John Downer Productions Ltd; combining my existing design skills with my new found camera knowledge to design and build animatronic Spy Creatures. This useful mix of attributes led to me being taken on location shoots, where my practical skillset and ability to fix things in the field allowed me to add "Animatronic Necromancy" to my CV.

Besides my creative work, I love the outdoors, nature, wildlife, action and adventure sports. Frequently climbing, as well as kayaking, skiing, diving, travelling and any form of adventure I can get up to.

I'm also pretty nerdy.

Overall I am an energetic and outgoing person with a passion for life. My diverse experiences have left me comfortable anywhere from blockbuster film set to a remote wilderness location, and my technical mind combined with my broad skillset gives me a unique angle to Natural History filmmaking.
